BALLISTIGLASS FAQs - Bullet Resistant ("Bulletproof") Glass

Frequently Asked Questions

What is BALLISTIGLASS?

BALLISTIGLASS is the newest innovation in lightweight transparent armor plates. Introduced to the market after years of research and development, BALLISTIGLASS offers several advantages over other products. BALLISTIGLASS is lighter because of its use of lightweight polymers. Produced without thick and heavy glass, BallistiGuard avoids weight-related issues that plague other technologies. With boats and cars, this weight reduction saves on fuel and suspension upgrades. The lightweight polymer also allows BALLISTIGLASS to be thinner which gives an aesthetic advantage when installed in buildings. BALLISTIGLASS  is installed by retrofit. Because the pre-existing glass is not removed, a significant savings in time and cost is realized. BALLISTIGLASS and its installation process are protected under US patent law. What does BALLISTIGLASS protect against?

BALLISTIGLASS for buildings comes in two formats: BallistiGuard and BallistiMax. BallistiGuard protects against handgun threats up to the .44 Magnum. For a higher level of protection, we have BallistiMax. BallistiMax also protects against the AR-15 and AK-47 rifles. Visit our “Docs” page and our “Videos” for test result information. To see how BallistiGuard and BallistiMax look after installation, visit our “Gallery” page. To learn more about ballistics, please visit our “Standards” page.

How is BALLISTIGLASS installed?

BALLISTIGLASS for buildings comes in two formats: BallistiGuard and BallistiMax.  Our installation team will install BALLISTIGLASS at your site at no additional cost to you. We use a patented (pending) process to attach BALLISTIGLASS to the inside face of the glass of your doors and windows. Since removal of the original glass is not necessary, projects are completed quickly and there is no down time for the installation site. To give you an idea, our installation team completed an installation for all the entrances at a school in four (4) days. Because no demolition is performed and the fact that BALLISTIGLASS is installed on the inside face of windows, BALLISTIGLASS has a far greater longevity than traditional bullet resistant solutions that are constantly affected by weather. For installations, our team can work nights or weekends to complete the project and are flexible to your scheduling preferences. As an approved Broward School District vendor (#134129), we have had our products thoroughly reviewed and accepted by the Broward School District Standards Committee. BALLISTIGLASS was also reviewed by the product control examiners at Miami-Dade County Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources and received their blessing for installations.

What is BallistiScan?

BallistiScan is an innovative solution for detecting concealed metal objects such as rifles, handguns,  knives, and e-cigarettes. It is a kind of stealth inspection system that uses micro Magnetic Anomaly Detector (MAD) sensors and is designed to be installed on standard barrier poles. Utilizing advanced signal processing algorithms during the inspection process, its Digital Signal Processor (DSP) is able to filter out many kinds of magnetic “noise” that would cause other metal detectors to deliver a false positive. BallistiScan works by detecting the movement of iron objects that move between the two sensors. Since most people are completely unaware that they are passing by the BallistiScan system, a friendly environment is maintained. The cost for a complete system is $4500 (this includes the laptop PC, pre-installed software, and protective case). The user only needs to supply two stanchions/barrier poles (required) and a floor mat (strongly recommended). These can be found online for less than $100.

What is BALLISTISHOCK?

BALLISTISHOCK is a countermeasure feature of BALLISTIGLASS bullet resistant products. Upon firing a bullet against BALLISTIGLASS, the bullet will enter the glass creating a volume of pulverized glass dust and larger glass shards. As the blast wave from the bullet hits the ductile layer of the BALLISTIGLASS, energy from the wave is redirected in the opposite direction. This wave carries the pulverized glass and glass shards in the direction of the gunman. The bullet(s) are stopped by the BALLISTIGLASS and the gunman is bombarded by the BALLISTISHOCK countermeasure. People on the “safe” side of the BALLISTIGLASS are protected from the BALLISTISHOCK. See our video page for a demonstration of BALLISTISHOCK.

What is COUNTERFIRE technology?

COUNTERFIRE technology is made possible by the asymmetric design of BALLISTIGLASS. The side closest to the protected individual is called the “safe” side. The side facing the gunman is the “threat” side. Bullets are stopped by the BALLISTIGLASS when fired from the “threat” side but can pass through when fired from the “safe” side. Firearms have inherent risks and as such, BALLISTIGLASS LLC does not make any recommendations to their use. A video demonstrating COUNTERFIRE technology can be found on our videos page.

How much does BALLISTIGLASS cost?

The price of BALLISTIGLASS is determined by the square footage of the window glass to be protected. Because each customer has a different project in terms of scale and scope, the overall cost will vary. Our new technology coupled with our novel installation method allows us to offer BALLISTIGLASS at the most competitive prices. To give you an idea, for example, protecting a classroom door against the AR-15 and AK-47 threats costs less than $500. Protection against handguns costs $250. Out of state surcharge (FL) and tax may be extra.
