At Ballistiglass, we understand the need of business owners to prevent threats to property, staff, and customers. But those big metal detectors you see at banks and airports are intimidating, and nobody enjoys being frisked and patted down. So, we came up with a solution: a security metal detector system that is discrete and non-invasive. It offers all the benefits of those clunky giant metal detectors, without the intimidating presence.
Our solution is the BallistiSCAN, a revolutionary new metal detector. The BallistiSCAN consists of a digital signal processing (DSP) controller, and two ultra-sensitive precision magnetic anomaly detector (MAD) sensors. The two MAD sensors work together to detect and calculate the size of any metal object that passes through them.
As a metal object passes through the metal detector system, the magnetic field generated by the MAD sensors is altered. The DSP controller can measure the size of the change in the magnetic field and plots it in real-time on an easy-to-read graph. Users can alter the alarm threshold to trigger the alarm to the sensitivity they need.
This sensitivity feature is ideal for many types of situations. A nightclub, for example, may only want the alarm to trigger when a weapon is being brought in, but will ignore small metal items thus setting a higher threshold. An airport, where you’re expected to empty your pockets, may set the threshold very low so that any metal item will trigger the alarm.
While the technology used in the BallistiSCAN is similar to what is used in larger metal detectors, the size and ease of set-up are what really set it apart. Each MAD sensor is roughly the size of a hockey puck. The DSP controller is the same size as a laptop’s power supply.
The entire BallistiSCAN system fits inside the included hard-shell case, which makes it easy for anyone to carry it to any location it’s needed.
Set-up takes less than 5 minutes. Both MAD sensors plug directly into the DSP controller, which in turn plugs into the laptop over USB. The MAD sensors can then be placed on top of stanchions, on the floor, or mounted on walls, provided they are no more than 4 feet apart.
The compact size of the MAD sensors means that most patrons won’t even notice them. Furthermore, the operator can be set up in a completely different room. An optional webcam can be used to take snapshots of any offenders that can be quickly distributed to security personnel to apprehend without disturbing any other customers.
BallistiSCAN can handle up to 60 people passing between the sensors every minute.
