Best Practices For Protecting Government Buildings

Written by john | September 9, 2022

Many government buildings see lots of foot traffic during the day from employees and visitors. This constant flux of people can make it easy for opportunists to slip through. Most new buildings must go through a rigorous construction tender process and scrutiny from public watchdogs.  Investing in adequate protection for government buildings is crucial for sustainability and public safety.

Let’s look at the various levels of government building protection available:

Basic Protection

Does your building have tellers? One layer of protection would be fitting cubicles with bulletproof glass fronts. Ballistiglass specializes in bulletproof glass that protects against bullets and provides a glass “spray” that can disable a criminal.

Fitting the front of the building with bulletproof glass adds an additional layer of protection since many criminal operations are launched from the street. Our glass is AR-15 and AK-47 resistant. It allows a person on the “safe” side of the glass to return gunfire without the risk of their bullets not penetrating the glass.  We call this COUNTERFIRE.

Advanced Protection

We believe that for-warned is for-armed, so the best way of countering an attack is not to have one. How is this possible? Another one of our innovative products is a walk-through gun detection system. We are especially proud of this nonintrusive and low-profile system that can be mounted on two stanchions. By using signal processing techniques, concealed guns and knives can be detected.

The best part of this system is the discretion. You can easily be aware of the presence of armed persons without arousing their suspicions or frightening bystanders in the area. This will make it easier to notify the correct authorities if necessary. On the flip side, employees and patrons don’t have to feel intimidated by the presence of enhanced security.

Many government buildings deal with money exchange: either the payment of taxes or license fees. Miscreants often view government buildings as easy targets because they can’t always afford advanced security systems. Therefore we strongly recommend the combination of both detection with BallistiSCAN and protection with BallistiMAX.

Can We Retrofit?

Local budgets often aren’t sufficient to warrant the construction of an entirely new building. A question we often get is whether we can retrofit. The answer is: we certainly can.

To do this, we use an advanced robotic installation system complete with a special lift. This allows us to overlay our glass over your existing windows. It is virtually indiscernible from standard window glass and costs a fraction of the price of new window installation.

So far, our advanced bulletproof glass has been installed in US Air Force bases, schools, and places of worship. It is fair to say that we are familiar with all types of building structures. We can adapt our product to suit almost all situations.
