INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Administrators from three central Indiana school districts got an up close and live demonstration Friday as they look for new ways to make schools safer. Schools in Blackford, Gas City and Jay County are considering using bullet resistant windows.

Representatives from a Florida company, BALLISTIGLASS, came up to show their product, which they say can stop rounds from handguns, AR-15’s and AK-47’s. They shot as many as seven rounds into a window without a bullet piercing. Educators say they are trying to look at as many new ways to up security as possible. “I know there is a lot of investigation about making sure our kids are safe and there are a lot of people considering different things for safety,” said Scott Shimer, principal at Blackford High School. “I would tell you we are definitely not the only ones paying attention to what is going on.” Each square foot of the glass runs about $200 a square-foot to purchase and install. Administrators say they’d have to submit proposals to their respective boards before making a decision.
